The main message in this multi-threaded article is that proprietary software is "devastating" for developing economies. "Further spread of IT, which is influencing the daily life of individuals, will have a devastating effect on the lives of society due to any small shift in the business practice involving these proprietary solutions." This, suggests the author, is why India's Free Software Foundation criticized Microsoft's educational software plan for that country. Some more worrisome subthreads, though: one is that open source software is anti-American, which isn't the point at all. Another is that India's nuclear missile program is justified by the same argument, which also misses the point.
